Harry Levinson :: Audio and Music Bio

Harry Levinson got his first guitar when he was 8 years old, a basic acoustic model bought for him at Sears by his parents. Later he tried trumpet briefly in high school, but after getting his first electric guitar at 17, it wasn't too long before he started playing with classmates in a garage band. Staples included Stairway to Heaven, Lean On Me and other classic rock tunes.

While still in high school he took some courses in voice and composition, and performed at various school events and talent shows. Rock stardom didn't arrive yet, but he continued musical studies in college. At RPI he took electronic music classes with Neil Rolnick and jammed with college buddies on tunes by the Cars, Yes, Genesis and others.

In college Harry began studying piano lessons, having only dabbled with the instrument in high school. Music class assignments provided him an opportunity to work with a variety of cool (now vintage!) synthesizers, included the Sequential Circuits Prophet 10 and Serge analog synthesizer. And there were of course analog 2" tape decks to play with. Ah, the good old days!

Harry started composing pop/rock tunes in the '80s, but it wasn't until the '90s when he hit his stride at the Blue Bear School of American Music. While taking a composition class with Bill "Sputnick" Spooner of The Tubes fame, he met three other people with whom he formed Strange Angels.

Later Harry learned more about recording, mixing, and producing at the Globe Recording Institute.
